#overthetop

My favorite photographer, Steven Meisel, has shot this #overthetop cover of Vogue Italia. Model Joan Smalls, will be the first woman of color to be on the cover of an issue since 2008.  4 freakin years!

The picture is beautiful and she looks stunning.  The colors are very vibrant and like the cover states,  from the make-up to those crazy nails, the cover is definitely over the top!

The New Carrie Bradshaw!

The role of Miss. Carrie Bradshaw has just been casted!  AnnaSohpia Robb (18) will portray Bradshaw as a young woman in her teens, as she discovers the way around none other than NYC.  The Carrie Diaries will be on the CW starting next fall and I am super excited for it.   We will see where it all began for our favorite New Yorker and how she meets her three trusty sidekicks- Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha.

No one compares to Sarah Jessica Parker but I am hoping for the best.  Those Manolos’ are not easy shoes to fill.  Wonder how she’ll pull it off!

Ruby-Red Slippers

Back in December, I got the lucky chance to see one of the original remaining pairs of Dorothy’s ruby-red slippers.  I wanted to share the pictures with you guys because it was truly an amazing experience.  Although, one of the pairs are at the Smithsonian, the pair I got to see, are known to be the ones Judy Garland wore in the infamous shots, where she clicked those heels together. *There’s no place like home*

The shoes were located at, Solange Azagury-Partridge boutique at 809 Madison Ave.  Being an upper east side girl I was thrilled.  Solange Azagury-Partridge boutique is one of the most beautiful places I have been in.  They greeted us very warmly and led us to the slippers which might as well have had beams of light coming out from them, I was so excited.  We took a few photos and checked out all the details of the shoes.  The shoes were not quite what I pictured but still beautiful.  Judy Garland, herself, signed the inside of the left shoe with #7 and her name, which I thought was neat.

The lady who worked their told us that this was the only pair noted to have painted red soles.  Guess Christian Louboutin was definitely not the first!  The shoes were only at the boutique for two days and then were put on auction to the highest bidder.  They were estimated to sell for between $2-3 million.  Yowza!

Cavalli F/W 2012

Grrr, baby! Veryy grr!

Sorry I had to! haha Although Milan’s Fashion Week is ending, I keep watching Just Cavalli’s F/W collection. I just love it and for some reason I keep getting an Austin Powers vibe.  I don’t want to but as I am watching I am humming the theme song to the series.  I know the geometric shapes and animal prints are nothing new for Cavalli but even the accessories brought me to the retro vibe.  When it comes to his designs, they never leave you bored.  The fitted trousers are perfect in a range of colors and prints and the Lurex and patent pieces were very Rock and Roll. Never a dull moment on his runways!

**BTW yes, that is Miss Naomi Campbell, AGE 41, rocking the runway! She is the star of his Spring/Summer 2012 campaign.  She’s definitely still got it. Good for her!

Style for less!

I am really adoring this blouse I got the other day.  It’s a tail hem peasant top from Forever 21 and I think it is pretty cool.  For $16 it is a HUGE  steal! I wore it today and thought I’d share it and get your feedback.  I paired the top with a simple skinny jean, a silver bangle, and my favorite pair of Cole Haan black ankle boots.  I really love uneven hems and the puffed sleeves are super cute.  Another reason that I love it is because of the color! Deep maroons and burgundys are so in right now. What do you guys think? Are uneven hems the new trend?

John Mayer’s New Tour and Album

John Mayer’s first tour in nearly two years will be starting April 9th! His month-long tour will end May 6th in Phoenix.  There are two New York dates.. one April 19th in West Point and one the 21st in Buffalo.

His new album, “Born and Raised” is set to come out shortly.  We haven’t heard new music in a while and I am really excited for his single, “Shadow Days”, which will be dropped next week.

Too bad he won’t make it to NYC. Maybe he’ll surprise us!?

Oscars 2012

Jessica Chastain-

She may not have won the Oscar for best supporting actress last night but, she definitely won my vote for best dressed.  Dolled up in Alexander McQueen, she was quite the vision.  For me, McQueen on the carpet is always a hit or miss, due to the less than subtle designs. Sarah Burton has a wonderful eye for details and the gold bead-work just proves that.  Gold hues mesh very well with Chastain’s red locks.  She is no doubt my favorite of the night!

Emma Stone-

Another favorite was Emma Stone.  I don’t know if I am bias to her because I adore her but I loved her in this Giambattista Valli gown.  I am a huge fan of bows at the neck and her silhouette is flawless.  My only critique is that it was quite the copy-cat of Nicole Kidman’s Balenciaga gown back in 2007, at the Oscars. Right? Pretty similar. Anyways, she looks flawless.  I love red gowns on a red-head!

Michelle Williams-

As much as I love this girl, she doesn’t always do it for me on the red carpet.  The Oscars was definitely her moment to shine! This Louis Vuitton gown was a surprising pick for her and I think it was just great.  I loveeee the coral on her and her pixie cut is perfect with a strapless dress, not to mention how big of a fan I am of peplum dresses.

Angelina Jolie-

I really liked Angelina Jolie’s dress.  The black velvet Versace piece is simply gorgeous, especially with the extra long slit on the right leg. I do have to criticize some things though. Their were a couple of flaws that stood out to me that I must mention.

Number 1- Gain some weight girl! Angelina is so beautiful but she was definitely looking way too frail&pale on the carpet.  If only she gained a little weight it would have been much better.

Number 2- Slit= major amazingness BUT!!! Easy with that leg Angelina!  I understand velvet can be heavy and you want that leg shown but the slit is supposed to be sultry not slutty.  In some of the pictures it looked like she was about to do a lunge.  We get it Angie, your sexy, don’t push it though.

Brad.. you’re perfect as always.

Mila Jovinich-

For Mila’s first Oscar’s she really did it right!  Her Elie Saab gown is perfection and she definitely pulled off the old-time glam look very well.

Fun fact- this gown is from Saab’s 2009 collection.

Miley Cyrus-

Although she wasn’t on the red carpet for the Oscars, she was spotted at Sir Elton John’s AIDS Foundation viewing party looking ahhhmazing.  She really stays under the radar for me when it comes to fashion but, this Roberto Cavalli dress is breathtaking! Lucky girl.
