Nicolas Ghesquière, the designer for one of the great fashion houses, Balenciaga, has parted ways with the brand. As a huge part of Balenciaga since he was merely 23 years old, the chief designer decided to leave after a joint decision was made. There has been rumors that some tension and changes in the relationship with the company’s management may have caused the split. Lionel Vermeil, the spokesman for Balenciaga, sent the statement, “Clearly the tradition of high creativity, coming from Cristobal Balenciaga’s time, will be perpetuated, and the future of Balenciaga will not be mainstream and will remain faithful to the DNA of the house and its creative principles.” Who are your picks to replace this amazing designer?
WWD reports that Lanvin has broken the mold when it comes to their new fall advertisements. The fashion house led by Alber Elbaz has put real life non-models from 18-80 in their shots. Photographed by Steven Meisel in NYC these shots will be featured in all of our September issues. Elbaz told WWD, “I was interested to bring these clothes back to the street somehow, and seeing how they look on different ages, different sizes … It felt like a crazy family, and I like that.” Although they are “average people” they will of course look chic as hell! Could this be a new trend though? Will we be seeing our neighbors in Vogue magazine from here on out?
